Date: 06/21/22 15:13 Re: 6 of Missouri Pacific Power in Houston Author: Roadmaster This is really cool to see these photos. I wish I knew enough to tell where all of them were taken, but I recognize/can figure out only some of them. Photos #1 and #2 are of a train headed south on the Galveston, Houston and Henderson at Tower 85 (18 was in Fort Worth). The train in photo #3 is southbound on the Houston, Belt and Terminal East Belt Sub at Tower 85 (like BN 6464 in another of your posts today). I sure wish I knew where photo #5 was taken.* Photo #6 was taken at a location that no longer exists, thanks to the rearrangement of tracks that took place in the late 1990's/early 2000's. The train is northbound on the Houston Belt and Terminal West Belt Sub, and the street crossing the tracks is Ennis Street. The station sign "TAP" marks where a train could leave the West Belt Sub and turn onto the old Houston Tap and Brazoria line which this train is already crossing. It was also crossing the former San Antonio and Aransas Pass branch to Navigation and Englewood Yards just a little farther back; the West Belt Sub's crossing of these lines was controlled by Tower 84.
http://txrrhistory.com/towers/084/084.htm On the left edge of the bottom map on the page for Tower 84 is where you'll find the Ennis Street crossing (of what is now the Columbia Tap Trail) just past the left end of the dotted green line. "TAP" is where the dotted green and the trail curving onto the ROW of the Houston Tap and Brazoria converge. *See newer post related to photo #5. Matthew Dittert Edited 4 time(s). Anyone know how to explain that power combo there in Houston?

I've seen something like that before. Looking through pictures I've saved over the years, I find a photo George Hamlin posted on RP of two MP GP18's leading an IC GP10 at Huffsmith in April 1980. Photo number is 225680. Matthew Dittert Date: 06/21/22 17:45 Re: 6 of Missouri Pacific Power in Houston Author: Roadmaster I just caught on that photo #4 has the same two locomotives as photo #6, so, since there are high voltage lines in the background, I am going to say that photo #4 was taken at the north end of New South Yard; the units are pointing north, which would take them to the location in photo #6.
Matthew Dittert Date: 06/21/22 19:12 Re: 6 of Missouri Pacific Power in Houston Author: Roadmaster I have figured out by studying old aerial photography that photo #5 is taken at the same Ennis Street crossing of the Houston West Belt Sub as photo #6. I found the spur track in the foreground in aerial photography and found that there was BOTH a crossover on the south side of the crossing AND another on the north side of the crossing, with switches for the west track on both adjacent to Ennis Street, which would explain the matching electric lock ground throw housings in both pictures. MP 3187 and IC 8250 are headed south towards New South Yard. That is probably MP 3235's northbound train on the other track.

They were a sad looking bunch and i don't believe they ever saw service again.
