and properly positioned before attempting to hand-line the main-track switch. A total of 4 locks to be unlocked and re-locked each time the spur is accessed to or from the main: the derail, electric switch lock, switch point lock and hand throw switch---not necessarily in that order. Drags would leave Bakersfield, slog their way up and thru Sandcut, the have to stop, cut, add helpers, re-hook, test, then depart. Seemd to eat up ALOT of track trime the times I watched it. And what a boring, boring place to wait for trains if your the crew on that engine. And sometimes very hot, too.
