4449 coming off the Pit River Bridge April 1977
Author: photobob

4449 leads the "Amtrak Transcontinental Steam Excursion' off the Pit River Bridge over Lake Shasta. 4449 was returning to its home base in Portland after its run with the American Freedom Train. There is a post on the Western Board about this bridge. Here I added a photo of it at La Moine which should solve the big diesel question.

Always nice to see steamers without the baby sitter diesels.

The photo that was added is interesting, nice view of the river but I'm sure this is all tree'd in by now. Curious what you were standing on.

Wish I stayed on that train at Oakland after I rode from SLO. 👍
