Nostalgia & History > SP train at Rosenberg,TxDate: 06/23/22 13:33 SP train at Rosenberg,Tx Author: gcm March 78
A GP9 leads a westbound train through Rosenberg,Tx passing the old REA building. The train is in the siding for the passing of the Sunset Limited. The track on the right is the Santa Fe Southern Division which paralleled the SP for a couple miles before turning to Galveston. The two lines crossed each other at Tower 17 not to far behind me. That siding may be gone now (for 35 years), but UP put in a 2nd main track on THIS side of the mainline a year or so ago. It makes a great place to tie down trains; some have been known to sit there for 72 hours. Last night UP put a crew on a westbound that had been there since Monday. The DS then lined them out across Tower 17 and . . . into the siding on the west side of the diamond!
