Nostalgia & History > SP's Pacific Coast Express - Early VersionDate: 08/05/22 15:56 SP's Pacific Coast Express - Early Version Author: JanGAustin I'm not sure exactly when the Southern Pacific inaugurated the Pacific Coast Express but it wasn't too much before this image was taken at the Gerber, California in November 1991. It had very high priority on the I5 corridor thus it was powered by the relatively new GP 60s.

Joe Date: 08/05/22 17:02 Re: SP's Pacific Coast Express - Early Version Author: photobob That was one of my favorite trains when I moved to Dunsmuir. You could always count on an early morning arrival from the north. Nice photo of those EMD's.

JG Date: 08/05/22 18:19 Re: SP's Pacific Coast Express - Early Version Author: STGuyII Did this train run via the coast line, given its name? I think SP wanted against having through freights on the coast around that time, for the most part.

Adam Date: 08/05/22 22:29 Re: SP's Pacific Coast Express - Early Version Author: E25 Back in the Sixties' and Seventies' I think they were known as the Pacific Coast Expediter and the Starpacer. Very classy trains, often powered with passenger-class F7s.

High priority train. Back when we changed crews at Davis on trains off the West Valley.

I caught this train in the pool many times going from Roseville to Bakersfield, 289 miles. The northbound counterpart was symboled the LAPCX.
