SP F's westbound at Cape Horn 1960

Early morning light finds this westbound passing through Cape Horn in 1960. I used to take the Greyhound up to Colfax from the City. Having no car meant some long walks but when your sixteen and chasing trains so what.

Slight westbound upgrade just west of Carpentar Road crossing.
Nice photo from a time long past.

A good 4 mile hike uphill from Colfax to Cape Horn. That eastbound track searchlight was constantly being vandalized by yokels shooting out the glass that Espee gave up and retired it in the 1980s. Today there are gates at the xing as well as signals for both mains.

Most likely that signal is 1460, and the pic is a couple miles
above Carpenter Rd. No upgrade there.
