Nostalgia & History > UP 844 earning its keep pulling a real passenger trainDate: 08/06/22 07:04 UP 844 earning its keep pulling a real passenger train Author: jtwlunch Today's Gibson collection scan is of a photo by Bill Gibson, SR of UP 4-8-4 844 pulling train 27 Overland westbound at Dale Creek, Wyoming in August of 1952. The photo has all the markers of the steam era, semaphores, water tank, water plug, a station sign you can read, trailing smoke, passenger train, and speed. The express box is interesting going westbound-what was in it? Company dining car supplies for down the line?

It's interesting to compare the depth of mainline ballast then, versus now.

At that date while I was figuring out how to walk, it would be another 22 years before I had the pleasure of seeing that engine. Gary Date: 08/06/22 08:44 Re: UP 844 earning its keep pulling a real passenger train Author: dan before the 3rd main construction
