As one of the last commercially built steam locomotives in the United States, the locomotive was built with the primary purpose of hauling long, heavy, high speed express passenger trains for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway such as the George Washington and the Fast Flying Virginian. These photos were all taken by Karl Miller. The slides are marked June 1981. As for location I'd guess near Detroit given Karl lived in suburban Detroit. Edited 1 time(s). Thanks for sharing them with all of us. I also appreciate the photo of the ex-B&O Club/Observation car on the rear, #3302 "Edward G. Hooper" that was owned by Railroad Passenger Cars (RRP) of Baltimore. This car is now in the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, sitting outside in the front yard collecting rust, a real shame.
