so what's available for the rail grinder train?

An SSW switcher and an SP GP 30 must have been what was on the ready track. For those not familiar with having a grinder train pass, it is loud and gritty. Breathing
that air could be a problem. Taken by Leroy Robl,4/72, Beaumont Hill area.

Very nice, and another instance of a Cotton Belt switcher making an appearance in Southern California.

It was considered somewhat of a rarity as mentioned in this post from a few days ago:

... and, for weeks afterwards, finding chunks of once-molten slag alongside the rails. But, the railhead was sure nicely shaped.

Sure looks funny compared to modern rail-grinders!
No Clickity-Clack, just steel wheels singing on freshly ground rail.
