Nickel Plate Road 587 is a 2-8-2 type USRA Light Mikado steam locomotive built in September 1918 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Lake Erie and Western Railroad as its No. 5541.  Wikipedia

• The first 5 photos are the runby. I have no location and date.  Hopefully someone will know.
• The sixth photo is a better shot of NKP 587.
• Photo 7 is of a favorite, round end obs Mardi Gras, which belonged to the Roanoke Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society.

Great series of photos! The interweb says NKP 587 is on the property of Kentucky Steam Heritage Corp of Ravenna, KY owned by a private individual who is contemplating its restoration.

On the other hand, the former "Mardi Gras" boat tail observation is now part of Andy Muller's collection of operating Reading Blue MOuntain & Northern excursion cars and has been renamed "King Coal" - here's a link to a Kevin Painter capture of "King Coal' at Port Clinton looking resplendent:
