Nostalgia & History > Fifty Or More Years Ago - Dennison, Ohio SceneDate: 10/05/22 14:10 Fifty Or More Years Ago - Dennison, Ohio Scene Author: refarkas Sometimes it's the scene and not just the locomotive. It is the summer of 1967 in Dennison, Ohio. My friend Mike Ondecker and I have left our usual railfanning locations to go to see the PRR in Dennison. In a few months, Penn Central will change everything, but for today, this is still Pennsylvania Railroad history. PRR 2608 is working the yard and has come east of the road at the east end of the yard. Soon, she will back into the yard and resume work, but now soak in the summer sun and the scene.
There is so much to see. As an example, check out the insulbrick on the East End Restaurant. Insulbrick was similar to the shingles that you might find on a house. It is made with a brick design and used on the sides of a building. 1.) Full scene. 2.) Closer crop. Bob Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/05/22 14:14 by refarkas. —Mac Date: 10/05/22 20:18 Re: Fifty Or More Years Ago - Dennison, Ohio Scene Author: Gonut1 The PRR was so dead and it wasn't obvious to us, the railfan, nor NYC, or the government regulators that thought all was well with the PRR and NYC when they allowed the PC merger. Little did we all know that the whole house of cards would tumble down taking out all of our favorite railroads. Sigh! What a mess and who could have thought that what we have today would be the outcome.
Great post of the last gasps! Gonut Date: 10/06/22 21:44 Re: Fifty Or More Years Ago - Dennison, Ohio Scene Author: BCHellman Gonut1 Wrote:

Maybe railfans didn't know, but the NYC, PRR and ICC did. That's why they were allowed to merge, with concessions, in order to prevent a collapse. Obviously cutting redundant routes and facilities didn't stave off bankruptcy. |
