Nostalgia & History > Chessie System Special Passenger TrainsDate: 10/06/22 16:28 Chessie System Special Passenger Trains Author: ClubCar The Chessie System was a very friendly railroad, especially after the successful operations of both the Chessie Steam Special in 1977 & 78 with ex-Reading Steam Engine 2101, and the Chessie Steam Safety Express in 1980 & 81 with C&O Steam Engine 614. They had been friendly even prior to these special trains; however, there were many other special passenger trains operated for not only the local NRHS Chapters and Railroad Passenger Cars (RRP), but for other groups and functions as well. Here we see a special getting ready to leave Camden Station in Baltimore one fine evening in the spring of 1982. The passenger GP-9 engine in this scene #6600, is actually running backwards, an unusual event for sure since B&O Geeps usually operated long hood forward. Photo from RRP.
