UP Automated Rail Way boxcars

Three shots of UP boxcars in Automated Rail Way colors in the days before widespread vandalism.

2. 361136    at La Grande OR, 29 JUL 1993.  This one still says "Railroad" on the herald.

they left out railroad starting  in 68/69 or so

Nice shots. The UP of my youth, and my basement. Would love to see any more you have. UP dropped the "railroad" starting in 1970 when the RR became one with the land and energy holdings. I never could believe that they actually went to the expense to paint out the word "railroad" on their equipment.

In the 60's UP ran big full color ads featuring these boxes in trade magazines

I believe the legal department told them they had to.
