Nostalgia & History > Reply to "RDG 2102 In Phillipsburg, NJ, What Year"Date: 11/24/22 05:14 Reply to "RDG 2102 In Phillipsburg, NJ, What Year" Author: 148Fireman The year was 1972, I remember both trips. They were both in February. I'm not sure of the exact dates, but I chased the Elizabeth ~ Bethlehem Saturday trip, and rode the Sunday trip.
I remember the weather,on the Saturday trip, was miserable. For the engine crew it could not have been worse. At Bethlehem, while spotting 2102 on a siding, its trailer wheels spread the rails, putting them on the ground. It must have taken a couple hours to re-rail them. The Sunday trip was a lot better, both scheduled run-by's were in full sunlight, albeit in the bitter cold and sloshing around in the snow . For me, both were captured in 'spectacular' 8-MM (silent) home movies. In January, 1973, after signing on as a volunteer with HICO, it was a good chance to get 'up close and personal' with 2102, leading up to its D&H and Hoboken ~ Binghampton adventures. Bob |
