Number 214 had been repainted into SCL colors, which were ACL colors. They were all built by BLW for SAL in 1952.

The Seaboard 207 had a second life as the Oregon California and Eastern logging operation near Klamath Falls Oregon as their 7908, then to Escanaba & Lake Superior #207 in 1984. The RS12's had incredible tractive effort at starting on dry sanded rail. They had the boss 6-pole Westinghouse traction motors. As I remember they didn't begin to redline until you reached 1800 amps - far higher than any other power. I watched three SD45's die with a heavy train on the uphill inbound to the receiving yard at Hamlet NC. Later two of the air-throttled RS12's coupled to the train in place of the 45's. They pumped the air off; and after what seemed like minutes of shaking and struggling, slowly moved and pulled the train into the receiving yard. Some of the RS12's still had their long unused boilers in the short hood.
It was nice to see some of the RS12's in the original SAL red/black switcher scheme. That was flashy paint. When I went firing, Hamlet still had one in red - the 208. I still have the wood horn pull off the 208 - still in the red paint. Happy Thanksgiving to all from a North Carolina Native American. OC&E got four of the SCL RS12s, SCL 207, 209, 210 and 211, which became OC&E 7908, 7909, 7910 and 7911. Looks like they were using a PRR signal as a switching signal in that top picture. Somewhere else, a PRR signal was employed as a switching signal and crews called them "Chinese Signals". I'm not sure if that was on the SAL or someplace else.
