C&NW's very rare switcher model ... and one here in Boulder
Author: valmont

Here's a Jim Shepard shot of one of two SW600's that the C&NW owned ... only 15 were built and most started out on industrial operations ... and a 'footnote' ... one of the SW600's worked here in Boulder for years at Public Service Co of Colorado's Valmont Plant shown in my shot in pic 2 on 2/5/83. I actually first shot #15-1 (pic 3) when it was working at a PSCO plant in Denver on 7/14/71. I think I have shots of it in at least 3 paint schemes.

The SW600 was the replacement for the SW1 in the 1954 EMD catalog.

C&NW's 1280 and 1281 were the local switchers based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on the Omaha Road in the 1950's.  They were a common sight for me as a kid hanging out at the depot.
