Nostalgia & History > EL/NJDOT U34CH at Ridgewood NJ 1977Date: 01/18/23 21:10 EL/NJDOT U34CH at Ridgewood NJ 1977 Author: erielackawanna An absolutely bizarre squall hit just as my Main Line train from Hoboken reached Ridgewood on April 6, 1977. I have almost no photos on film where I caught the precipitation, but I sure did on this one. I remember getting soaked running to the front of the train to photograph it. My mom was waiting down the stairs below on the street to take me home.

So much to like about this photo, as others have noted. I like the classic "railroady" suburban station on a heavy mainline look, when it was a railroad as opposed to the generic look of todays "transit" stations. The brutish U34, along with the weather, is the icing on the cake. I only wish we could hear the sound of that thing's barking as it accelerates the train up the hill to Ramsey. |
