Nostalgia & History > Instamatic picturesDate: 01/23/23 14:51 Instamatic pictures Author: Cole42 I was going through an old photo album of pictures I took in the late 70s with my Vivitar 110 camera, noting how poor quality they are (fuzzy, out of focus, dark), but taking digital photos of them to have them with all the digital pictures I have taken. And I thought I'd post some of them no matter how bad they are since I can't go back and re-take them, and at least I took pictures.
1 - from the Amshack in Canton OH 7/1/78. Those familiar with the location may like to compare to what it looks like now. 2 - I think this was near View Tower (Duncannon PA), from the vestibule of the EB Broadway. Our baggage car derailed in the interlocking. My 13 yr old self thought it was great we sat there a couple hours and I got to watch CR train after train go by, my parents were not as thrilled. 7/2/78 3 - looking down on an E44 on the NEC at Halethorpe MD 9/2/78. Only reason I post this one is that it isn't a bad shot of the pantograph details. Date: 01/23/23 14:54 Re: Instamatic pictures Author: Cole42 4 - southbound GG1 also Halethorpe MD 9/2/78

which pre-dated the production of the PRR's E-44s. The three trailing motors are not E44s. Note the classic pantographs. E44s were equipped with 'single-arm' pantographs. W. Date: 01/23/23 16:20 Re: Instamatic pictures Author: Cole42 wcamp1472 Wrote:

Correction made, I didn't even notice they were E33's, I can barely make out a 46xx number also Date: 01/23/23 16:47 Re: Instamatic pictures Author: stevelv I'm glad you found those. I too grew up with an Instamatic from the time I was able to walk and pee in the bushes by myself on railfan outings. I remember the film cartridges were 12 shots per roll B&W. I also remember the PC/CR electrics and the mix with the G leading the E33's was unusual as they hardly ever mixed electric motors unless there was a mechanical failure.

But I was not a railfan at the time--- a couple photos, if I can ever find them- did have a train in them... Thanks for posting; it's all history. Edited 1 time(s). And for the record, if your camera was a Vivitar, then it wasn't an Instamatic. Vivitar still makes Vivitar photography gear and Kodak once made the iconic Instamatic.
