Downtown Baltimore Financial District with Streetcars
Author: ClubCar

The attached photos are of Baltimore Transit Company "Peter Witt" Streetcars taken around 1948 or so by an unknown photographer.  All of the buildings in the first photo are now gone including the Union Trust Bank on Baltimore Street and the Southern Hotel at Light and Redwood Streets.  This area was part of the financial district in Downtown Baltimore.  The second photo shows a number 6 streetcar turning onto Light Street from Baltimore Street heading down to Curtis Bay in the southern part of the city.  The third photo shows Peter Witt car #6119 on the #32 line which operated until 1955.  This car #6119 is now preserved and in operation at the Baltimore Streetcar Museum.  The Baltimore Transit Company had 150 of the Peter Witt cars and they operated until the #32 line was converted to bus operations by the National City Lines Bus Company which was owned by an oil company, a tire manufacturer and of course General Motors which made buses.  Even though the riding public did not want their streetcars to go, the bus company did not care.  Photos in my collection.

For older streetcars, they look well-taken-care-of.
