KM Locomotives
Author: ApproachCircuit

I saw them many times running thru Stockton,Ca usually MU'ed with a F7 B unit. I don't believe  they ran too long unassissted.
The driveshafts referred to in an earlier thread were actually called Cardan Shafts.
I heard several stories, maybe rumors, that on more than one occurance, the fly wheels or maybe shafts had disintegrated during operation.
I think the problems happeded directly below the engineers seat-box!!
They seemed to be concentrated on the SJ Valley between Roseville and Bakersfield and also between Bayshore and Watsonville Jct.

I think you are repeating a rumor which actually never happened.

Both models of K-Ms made it all the way to Brooklyn Yard in Portland.  My brother actually got a tour of one of the production (newer) models in 1965 at the Brooklyn Roundhouse. His photos of that tour are posted on the SP 9010 website.  They usually ran with and F7a, F7b or GP9
