Nostalgia & History > E33s at sunsetDate: 03/28/23 09:48 E33s at sunset Author: bobdavis Near sunset on January 4, 1975 a pair of Penn Central E33 electrics is westbound at Coatesville, PA with 114-car Philly-Conway freight FP-5. The former Virginian units lasted until the end of Conrail electrified freight operations in 1981.

Bob Date: 03/28/23 10:39 Re: E33s at sunset Author: boejoe Besides Virginian paint and lettering I believe they also wore Norfolk & Western, New Haven, Penn Central, and Conrail livery. Lots of paint over a short period of time.

Fred Date: 03/28/23 23:06 Re: E33s at sunset Author: ironmtn Everything everyone else said above - one outstanding image! For me, it makes even better that I was lucky enough to see (and hear!) those motors at work, and enjoyed the show way too much. Including at sunset, standing on the depot platform at Villanova, Pa....when I should have been in the library or studying. That happens, you know, especially when there's a show like this nearby. Thanks for the memory!

Date: 03/29/23 09:55 Re: E33s at sunset Author: Gonut1 I spent many evenings in Paoli watching the Gees and Eees pulling the hard eastbound grade in all kinds of weather oftentimes with two on the hedend and two more shoving, and Gees effortly pulling long passenger trains while dodging the few MUs scampering by west of Paoli. It sure is different with all the freight gone to unelectrified routes.
Super look back. Go Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/29/23 09:56 by Gonut1. Date: 03/29/23 16:05 Re: E33s at sunset Author: Kemacprr Nicely done Bob !!! Can't take that pic any more. No E-33's and track 2 and 3 are now just an empty row. --- Ken
