Nostalgia & History > Here's CGW #63 and ... uh CGW 63Date: 03/30/23 14:14 Here's CGW #63 and ... uh CGW 63 Author: valmont My photo KC @ 8/14/71 ... both numbered 63. Guess I was used to the calf having a 'B' attached to its number ... of course maybe they just did things differently in KC back then as the Santa Fe had a couple TR4 cow/calf sets working KC area around the same time, and they were 2418/2418A and 2419/2419A.

Back in this time frame the track was considered the right way out of Neff from the "West end" towards Lydia Ave. I think the UP renamed it ML 3 .Also it looks like the blue building still stands, and Knuckle Heads Bar is back to the right, if a person is around KC railfanning it is a great place to stop by on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, open jam and free admission, and tracks right next to the bar. I have not found a clear enough, close-up enough shot to reference to support my claim. After CNW bought the CGW, the TR2's kept their CGW numbers for a while, but I guess someone at CNW wanted the "A" and "B" to be more noticeable. See the 63A in this photo: https://www.cnwhs.org/imggallery/displayimage.php?album=4&pid=768

Here are my pictures, scanned from negatives from a small P&S camera, of C&NW. ex-CGW, TR2A #58A + #58B and #63A + #63B at Mitchell Yard, Milwaukee, WI, 3/25/72, 5/28/72, and 11/24/72. Did C&NW add the As and Bs? Gerry

The 63B is located next to the footsteps of the rear of the B unit, they don't look like the CNW stenciled the B markings on after the merger to me. Great photographs from Valmont, KCRW287

Thank you both for correcting a long-standing error in my records. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/31/23 12:24 by valmont. |
