Great times, great photo, especially from Instamatic!
A time when one could expect pretty much anything on the point of trains.
All sorts of BN merger railroad power, most in original schemes, plus WP
& a few leased SP GP35s.
Thanks for posting.
Regards, Jim Evans

And there’s the reason I’ve always wanted to model Klamath Falls in 1971…

Good stuff! I didn't really get started with 35mm photography until 1976. By then the BN rainbow era was all but gone. I did get a few silver "Q" cabeese, though...

Lots of interesting things to see in the KF photo. ~ .

Agree, KF was a very busy place with lots of interesting traffic, once I figured that out it was a regular visit on just about every road trip.

+ oh, ok, BN under the numbers this time.

Holy cow JB - amazing photo - thanks for sharing!!

I love the way BN renumbered and marked the merged locomotives, with a small "BN" stenciled on the side and a neat renumbering matching the existing paint, pretty much leaving everything else alone.  Compare that to how Conrail did it to theirs six years later - crudely (and IMHO unnecessarily) painting out road names, logos and numbers with whatever paint was on hand (usually black).
