trackmaps: the Peninsula 1965-1974
Author: phthithu

Any of you Google Earth for Desktop--Google Earth On Desktop I think they call it this week--users might be interested in this set of trackmaps for the SP's Peninsula line between San Bruno and Sunnyvale. This collection covers the trackage included in the Peninsula SPINS book. Thanks to E.O. at the Dome O' Foam for making that available to public: https://wx4.org/to/foam/sp/spins/books.html

The SPINS book is from 1974 but these trackmaps are based on the 1965 aerial photos from UCSB, which can be accessed using their Framefiner webapp: https://mil.library.ucsb.edu/ap_indexes/FrameFinder/. So, a lot of the tracks depicted in the trackmaps were gone by 1974 but are included anyways. There are a handful of tracks which were installed after 1974 and got included if they showed up in the current Google Maps imagery. I think that was just a couple of spurs at Redwood Junction and on the Dumbarton Line out by Ravenswood.

Enjoy this video tour of the collection showing the 1965 and 1974 aerials and the fun stuff you can do in Google Earth! These days they distribute Google Earth Pro which is free. Not that hard to learn to use.
