DL&W FT 601
Author: JPB

In the summer of 1959, DL&W FT #601 leads 3 more pulling westbound freight at Owego, NY.  DL&W received 12 FTs cab units 8 B units in April-May 1945.. The DL&W FTs, along with the Erie's 6 months older 12 FT cabs / 12 FT B units, survived into the Erie Lackawanna era but I'm guessing they became trade-ins for 2nd generation road power (eg EMD GP35s) in 1964.

Did EL ever mate up any FT's into A-A configuration ?

Note the two piggybacks behind that B&M box car !

That was the last summer for the DL&W mainline between Johnson City and Gibson. Lackawanna trains were then rerouted over the parallel Erie mainline between those two points.

Actually, the FT's (built in 1945) appear to have been traded to Alco in 6-1963, according to the roster in the book Erie Power, by Stauffer. The roster shows 4 sets, 601 to 604 as A-B-A with the last set delivered as an A-B-B configuration.
Looks like the DL&W numbered them traditionally for the time, IE 601, 601B, 601C. The book does show the 604 (A-B-B) set of road numbers as having two 604B's. Bet that didn't last long.

Yes. As pushers out of Scranton.

The DL&W had both FTSB (the unique and rare short B units) and conventional FTB unit's. The 600's were A-B-A sets with conventional gearing. The 650's were A-B (conventional FTB's) sets with the unique 45 mph gearing and were considered pushers.

This appears to be two "600" sets with the two A units removed and working elsewhere. Possibly being used as pushers in Scranton.

They were delivered as A-B-A sets. See previous post. They were later reconfigured by the DL&W as power needs dictated. The DL&W was an early practitioner of mixing units as their power needs required. This resulted in GP7's, RS3's and Train Masters being mixed with the F's. All possible because they standardized on schedule 24 brakes.

A little OT but when DL&W FTs were configured in A-B-A set and an A unit required shop time, a re-purposed steam locomotice tender painted grey & maroon could replace the down A unit as a draw bar adpater unit.
