Shiny New U30Bs
Author: rattenne

Western Pacific U30Bs Nos. 752-754-751-753 roll west east of Pulga in the Feather River Canyon, on October 8, 1967. These units represent four of the five U30Bs ordered from G.E. They were received on the railroad on October 3, 1967, and five days later were photographed here. I suspect this was one of first runs of the new U30Bs out west. The train originated on the Highline and photographer Jim Lekas chased the train from Keddie to here.

WP purchased the U30Bs for their excellent tractive effort after having extensively worked G.E.'s black and yellow U30B demo set, racking up over 10,000 miles system wide (Source: Western Pacific Diesel Years by Joe Strapac)

Do my eyes correctly spot that these were running for a while before they got their WP logos attached to the side of the cabs?

They probably needed to go to the main shops to receive them?

The second, third and fourth units have them.
