.   .   .   in AUG '76, the original "far out" painted Auto Train was northbound on SCL near Folkston, GA, complete with home built looking caboose and early use of wind power.

Very nice!  The caboose should be ex-FEC 808 with the bay windows removed and an extended vision cupola grafted on.  Here is sister car FEC 803 at New Smyrna Beach in 1979.

Also, I think your photos were shot at Folkston, as the Post Office building in the background and the water tower are both still there.

The combination of Red, White and Purple just screams 1970's!!!!  The decade that gave us Avacado Green!

Nice catch, remember seeing or passing the Auto Train several times back in the 70s as our family traveled on the Floridian to see grandma...

I fired a lot on it, those ge's were the roughest riding things on the rr. At that time it still ran 80, usually it had 3 engines.
