Eastbound stack train departing Houston on the Sunset Route.  SSW 9679 was later UP 1981:2.  Slide mount says November 1990.

I always enjoyed catching that big "SSW" on the nose on the GSR after the Rock Island folded. It seemed like the Cotton Belt was a great caretaker for the Rock's old right-of-way...

Fine photo. I remember watching the SP Sunset route trains from the MoPac yard in San Antonio during the mid-eighties. Seemed they launched west with large locomotive consists - more like 6+ engines. Impressive to watch.
