Dropped by McCloud yesterday and noticed a pair of fifth wheel style RV's sitting in front of the Enginehouse, positioned door facing door with awnings deployed to allow a large shaded area. Not sure what it means, could be live-in Security, could be from out of town to work on a big project. There is a gravel road to access the 'Great Shasta Rail trail' parking that passes by the facility.

Noticed a few local pick up trucks in town have those little round white bumper stickers with ' McC ' for McCloud.

Nice photo!

There were two of the Alaska geeps in McCloud, 1810 in this pic and then 1804 that had an angular cab and blue/yellow paint scheme. McCloud bought them around 1988 from a Klamath Falls junkyard with an eye towards testing the shop’s ability to get into the locomotive remanufacturing business. McCloud Railway bought the 1810 at their startup before quickly trading it away, they then bought the 1804 from Itel around 1993 but quickly sold it as well. Nevada Industrial Switch ended up with them both. I happened to stumble into McCloud the day a couple NIS mechanics got the 1810 fired up for the first time in years, it turned the skies black as it blew out all the crap that had accumulated in it. That was about 1993. The pair went on to play starring roles in the Under Siege 2 movie. 1804 spent the rest of the 1990s bouncing around Southern California before the Gold Coast Railroad Museum bought and shipped it to Florida where it is now in operation and painted up as Atlantic Coast Line #1804. The 1810 also spent time in California before Oregon Pacific Railroad bought it in 1999, they sold it a few years later to ADM, it is still in service switching the ADM facilities in Dodge City, Kansas. So neither of them seem to be missing that headlight housing today.

They probably replaced it somehere along the way. I got the headlight from a BN conductor in K-Falls that said it came off an Alaska unit. Being a collector of RR stuff, he didn't tell me how he came by it, lol! That thing is heavy...

Yellow indicates that almost certainly came off the 1804. The photos I have of it on my website pretty clearly show headlight covers missing from both ends of the unit whilst it was sitting in the Klamath Falls junkyard in 1988:

I wonder if anyone thought those two would ever run again at that time. McCloud shops obviously came up with replacements.
