Ski train in the mist
Author: santafe199

I haven’t seen very much heavy mist/fog photography from the Front Range. But my late friend Gary Rich was more or less fearless in how & when he would point his camera! I like the way Rio Grande orange sorta burns through the mist in this image. It’s a nice change of pace...

1. D&RGW 5771 leading a ski train near Rocky, CO on September 25, 1978.
Original Kodachrome slide by the late Gary Rich.

Thanks for peering!

Great stuff!!

Perhaps a little early for running a Ski Train, though?

Weee-ullllllll.............. That would make sense. But that's what was on the slide. And I'm not familiar with how early it can snow in the Rocky's rafters...

Same engine consist & same number of cars... It's entirely possible I transferred the wrong month from the slide. But I have seen snow in July in the elevations above Denver...

it was the only time the SKI train ran with f's after 1972 was this date and 1983-84  after the f's no longer had the RGZ to pull that i know of

winter park sometimes struggles to open by thanksgiving in the past, more snowmaking helps
