Probably couldn't do this today
Author: gcm

Sept 1979
During the 1979 Washington DC NRHS convention a runby at Lancaster,Pa with GG1 4935.
A surprise at the end - just slightly dangerous.
Of course it could still be done today as long as you had your vest on.

Why? If this was indeed a "photo runby", that would have subsequently required a revers move, then that man would simply be "protecting the shove"!

Judging from the roof vents, an end door baggage car converted to a HEP power car, I think...

Couldn't he just stand in the opened doorway?

Either way, it was still allowed obviously, at that time. If it scares or offends anyone, they should immediately look away and think about something much different. His tie may prevent injury if cinched up tight and if he lands on it correctly.............. maybe. :)

He's got that 70's "disco vibe" going on.  Almost looks like a band member in the Village People!

I don’t see a radio or any kind of air valve like a caboose has. If he is protecting the shove, how does he communicate?

The radio just might be in his back pocket.

I’ve been doing the job for 28 years and I wouldn’t wanna ride that shove like that . I agree that the Magic Vests and other such things are just feel good-ism, but that ain’t heads up railroading.
