Nostalgia & History > Frisco EMD F unit soundsDate: 01/06/25 09:32 Frisco EMD F unit sounds Author: Frisco1522 There was an engineer between Newburg and Springfield, MO who used to drag around a big tape recorder back in the '50s. He sent me a cassette years ago of recordings he made in Newburg and Rolla, MO which mean a lot to me. He apologized for not having it when steam still ran on Rolla Hill.
As far as I know, recordings of Frisco steam are non existent unfortunately other than later sounds of 1522,1630 and the Mississippian Ry. Sit back and enjoy a few minutes in Rolla, MO as a freight comes up Rolla Hill. I should mention that this is special to me as my Dad was the engineer. What are the odds! Edited 1 time(s). We have in our hobby sufficent documentation of what railroads looked like, but we have virtually nothing of what they sounded like, whether steam or early diesel. Sound is as important to the senses as the eyes (at least in this business). And what makes this special, is that he continued to record after the power past, so we hear wheels roll on stick rail. We hear what a train sounded like, beginning to end. O Winston Link was one of the few who understood the power of sound. Thank you for providing this rare treat and opportunity of sound. Brad |
