(George Lytle), 1868-1935.  Date: 1922-1930.  Summary.  Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad snowplow 043 clears Tennessee Pass, in Lake County, Colorado; a beam and pulley arrangement extends from the side.  Physical  Description: 1 photonegative : nitrate ; 20 x 25 cm (8 x 10 in.). 
 
What is the purpose of the beam and pulley?

I believe there is a spreader under the snow that extends from the chassis. The beam is to fold the spreader back to the chassis. My apologies if this is incorrect.

Nice thing about a spreader, you can plow on an adjacent track.
