Nostalgia & History > B&O heavyweight baggage carDate: 03/13/25 12:41 B&O heavyweight baggage car Author: gcm Dec 1980
Still in passenger paint in a siding at Kent,Ohio along the B&O. The small door at the far end - maybe an RPO/baggage at one time ? A rescan. Gary ![]() Date: 03/13/25 13:20 Re: B&O heavyweight baggage car Author: ts1457 The car had a 15' RPO compartment. As a baggage mail, I believe it was B&O Class E-7c. I do not have the exact number series or order information, but I think the series might have been nos. 272 - 291.
In my diagrams from 1956, looks the the converted baggage car class was B-21 with 12 cars in the 675-686 series. I think one car was an oddball that was not originally B&O. Date: 03/13/25 13:57 Re: B&O heavyweight baggage car Author: gcm Thanks for the car info !

Bob Date: 03/14/25 04:28 Re: B&O heavyweight baggage car Author: agent1522 Is it possible this car was rebuilt from something else? The baggage doors are too narrow for a straight baggage car and I'm seeing what look to be blanked out windows also.

From the diagrams, both original and as rebuilt, the baggage doors are five feet. As you say, a bit narrow compared to the average baggage car, but of course, it originally was not a straight baggage car. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/14/25 06:06 by ts1457. |
