These tracks were used by through passenger trains to Reading, Pottsville, etc. Today they are used by NS to reach Morrisville, PA via a connection to the old PRR Trenton cutoff. The overhead bridge is the old Philadelphia & Western, later known as the Norristown High Speed Line. Photos were taken from the Dekalb Street station and the trains are eastbound headed to Reading Terminal, Center City Philadelphia.

You are correct, however, where was the "Refreshment Car" that day, either 9165 or 9166? Also, lead RDC 9164 burned to death in that infamous grade crossing crash with a gasoline tank truck in Southampton PA in January, 1982 on the ex-Reading Newtown branch. Finally, surprised to see the CNJ main was still 4 tracks in 1972! Used to be an interesting place for train watching once upon a time.
