Nostalgia & History > Blazing a trail to ChicagoDate: 03/19/25 05:51 Blazing a trail to Chicago Author: dcoursey It's a balmy summer evening in Crestline, OH on July 25, 1940. The evening sun glistens off of the well-polished boiler of PRR K4s #5383 heading the consist of the train #77, the Trail Blazer. Imagine being a bystander that day, watching her storm off to her next stop at Lima, OH...the bark of her exhaust bouncing off the buildings; that husky-throated whistle, so characteristic of Pennsy passenger power, sounding for the grade crossings. Slowly, her music fades into the distance, and the sounds of both nature and industry overtake her completely.

I was there a number of times in the 60's and 70's - tried to imagine what it would have been like to see a K4 pass by. During the times I was there no sign of the platform being brick. It may have just been paved over. The three story station was also reduced to one. Gary Date: 03/19/25 06:55 Re: Blazing a trail to Chicago Author: swaool This would be an early morning shot, as the westbound Trail Blazer was due into Crestline at 5:33 AM (see https://streamlinermemories.info/PRR/PRR39TrailBlazer.pdf). Clicking on the link provided, I see that that this is the work of Otto Perry. I think the name of the photographer should be included when posting the work of others.

I will edit it into the post if it ruffles too many feathers. Date: 03/19/25 08:12 Re: Blazing a trail to Chicago Author: santafe199 dcoursey Wrote: > ... I thought the link was enough ...

I agree with you. The link (to an archive) should be sufficient indication that you were not claiming it. I'll probably be found guilty of a similar offense in the future. |
