1. UP 2029 leads a train near Kemmerer, WY on May 17, 1974. Copy slide by Emil Albrecht, from the late James W. Watson collection. Thanks for looking up! Author: 3rdswitch Nice catch, and, you hardly EVER see shots of UP's original GP38's, ESPECIALLY leading an intermodal!

I would love to take a time machine for a few days observing UP's power bureau back during that then. Date: 03/19/25 10:00 Re: A-B-B-B, as only Uncle Pete... Author: Gonut1 Who needed cabs anyway?
Neat catch. Go Date: 03/19/25 10:12 Re: A-B-B-B, as only Uncle Pete... Author: Milwaukee That was my same reaction to seeing a nearly new UP GP38-2 leading this UP unique power consist and TOFC train. The UP during that era normally kept their GP38-2's very busy working their branch lines and locals in the PNW area and it was very hard to see them leading a mainline freight with any B-units given those were quickly disappearing when they came on the property.
This was a great photo to share on TO and thanks for this post. 3rdswitch Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Nice catch, and, you hardly EVER see shots of UP's > original GP38's, ESPECIALLY leading an > intermodal! > JB Date: 03/19/25 10:32 Re: A-B-B-B, as only Uncle Pete... Bryan Date: 03/19/25 19:46 Re: A-B-B-B, as only Uncle Pete... Author: santafe199 Thanks guys! I do like to post one or two real doozies up there every few days. As I sift through my massive collection of scanned images from so many different photographers it is sometimes difficult to keep it fresh and interesting. On the other hand, routine and otherwise standard shots from 60-70 years ago are interesting just by definition. And there are always the many dozens of scanned images that need location help. I’ve got enough to keep me going here on TO for the next 30 or 40 years.
