A box camera and SP F units
Author: gcm

July 1962
When I was 11 we made a trip from Ohio to Texas to visit relatives and stopped for gas in Hearne,Tx.
I saw the SP train with F units in the large yard across the street and made a quick visit with the old box camera.
Hard to tell but the far left engine among the three on the left I thought was a GP9 but maybe an Alco - RS11 ?
From prints - negatives long gone.
Hearne is still a busy place today.
I would have liked to hang around a while but I can hear my dad from the gas station now - Let's go !

Looks like a GP9 and a RSD5 behind the F's on the train, and the light consist has a GP9, F unit and RSD5, in my opinion.

Nice one Gary.  I can see you had the photographers eye at an early age!

Sure like these B&W photos as I was living 100 miles north of there in 1962 and saw such SP trains as a kid.  Thanks for sharing , Gary.

In reality, my first real railfan photograph EVER was taken with the family Kodak Brownie on color print film. I think the engine was AT&SF 2820, in Abilene, KS. Even with Photoshop help. it is pretty much a worthless image, except for the fact that it was my first. That makes it priceless…

I am surprised how empty that yard is.
