Nostalgia & History > F Unit Friday - SP EB LA - Piggyback Between Mt. Hebron & DorrisDate: 04/11/25 08:21 F Unit Friday - SP EB LA - Piggyback Between Mt. Hebron & Dorris Author: FiveChime August, 1968, Joe Ward photo.
Do not see too many photos of this train from during the 1960s era. Just like with the Coast SF - LA piggyback trains during this time, running with LA passenger Pool F's, with FP7s often in consist. We chased this one north from Grass Lake, and just made it back in here on backroads on the straight track south of Dorris, California Regards, Jim Evans Date: 04/11/25 09:47 Re: F Unit Friday - SP EB LA - Piggyback Between Mt. Hebron & Dor Author: TCnR Sure looks like one of the meadows near Leaf or Bray near the County road that was once the State Highway, near Penoyar, Kegg or Tennant in more modern landmarks. The old Long Bell Logging RR was in that general area. Tried to check when the Bray siding or depot had been removed but not available at the moment, maybe check the TO archives.

I think Joe's pic would have been shot at or compass south of MacDoel. North of there, the highway is right next to the track, and Mt. Shasta would be in the background of a shot of an eastbound (compass northbound) train. mike woodruff north platte ne Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/11/25 10:24 by swaool. I was at Bray when station was still there and tracks remained in place at the Long Bell intereschange yaed across the road from station. Regards, Jim Evans Date: 04/11/25 15:13 Re: F Unit Friday - SP EB LA - Piggyback Between Mt. Hebron & Dor Author: TCnR Agree.
Watched the LB rails slowly disintegrate over the decades. The RoW can still be seen next to the paved road to Tennant. The RoW can be found on the hillsides east of there, although thay had a big burn through there a couple of years ago. Checked out the location of Leaf, you can look down the tracks to the location of Bray, almost make out hand signals. Big ranch north of that area now.
