Nostalgia & History > Mopac Monday – Alco Trucks and Torpedo TubesDate: 04/14/25 05:36 Mopac Monday – Alco Trucks and Torpedo Tubes Author: ironmtn Before merger into the UP, Missouri Pacific was a solidly run property with high-quality track and generally good facilities. But it could be quite thrifty, too, particularly in motive power. Here GP18 1991 (originally the 496, built 1963), and riding on AAR Type B trucks from trade-in Alco power, heads a short freight near Valley Jct. in East St. Louis, Ill. in summertime heat and glare in 1976. Trailing is GP7 1757, built all the way back in 1951 for subsidiary St. Louis, Brownsville & Mexico (“The Brownie”), and sporting roof-mounted “torpedo tube” air reservoirs.
