A pair of B&O SD40-2s start the push up the east slope of Sandpatch on an overcast day in May 1982.  I would later get a ride on the helpers on the point of the Chicago Jet that day...great memories.  "Hyndman Helpers Push Harder"!

Just curious who you got a ride with? Those guys were all friendly. Beautiful!

Agreed, I wish I remembered their names.  I was a "yoot" at the time tagging along with a couple other guys who were older and knew Q tower operator as well.  I should've jotted down names..

Was that the location of the swimming hole where girls would show their "appreciation" to the passing trains?

Yep, famous for decades.
The young woman pictured is actually conservatively dressed with proper footwear for this hole; maybe a local Christian girl.
The 3rd pic is one of mine from summer 1978, the crews are not looking for fish!...
