Nostalgia & History > Houston Chronicle TodayDate: 07/05/25 08:44 Houston Chronicle Today Author: BlackWidow This story is in the business section of the Houston Chronicle today. Check out the second picture. This rice elevator is an iconic structure on the west side of Houston and when I was young I remember MKT switching the location. Tracks are long gone but I believe the ROW is still there. The last train along the MKT west of Houston run in 1998 I think before the tracks were removed for the I-10 expansion.

I saw many MKT trains pass those dryers in Katy,Tx when they were in operation. The dryers you mentioned in west Houston - were you talking about the ones just north of I-10 and east of Sam Houston Parkway ? I don't know what the plans for those are. Gary Date: 07/06/25 12:11 Re: Houston Chronicle Today Author: BlackWidow I thought they were the ones at Sam Houston and I-10, but after discussing with others, these are in the town of Katy, Texas. And I do wonder what will happen to the ones at Sam Houston and I-10. They are so well built they might just leave them there because it would be too much to bring them down.
