Nostalgia & History > Signal Sunday - Erie LackawannaDate: 07/06/25 05:33 Signal Sunday - Erie Lackawanna Author: gcm Dec 1976
Less than a year into Conrail this is looking east on the former EL line between Rittman and Wadsworth,Oh. Everything looks the same except for the amount of traffic on this line. I don't think that during the EL era snow would have had time to accumulate on the rails like this. A green signal for a Conrail local. Dec 1980 Unfortunately Conrail abandoned most of the line west of Akron. The code lines, searchlight signals etc were gone with at least one from the first image remaining in the ditch. One of the few areas where some track survived was on this part - Akron-Rittman for businesses in Rittman. The line remains today. Gary Edited 1 time(s). Real nice photo, Gary. Were EL signals through this territory continuously-lit? Or was this approach lit by the local you mentioned? Some portions of the Erie were continously-lit. Cuba, NY to Hornell begin one. |
