Georgia Railroad business car 300
Author: gcm

May 1978
A few rescans.
In Atlanta.
300 was built by Pullman-Standard in 1930 as a lounge car on the Crescent Limited.
It was acquired by the Georgia Railroad and converted to a business car in the early 50's.
Retired in 1982, it went into the private car business and I caught it on the eastbound Sunset Limited (Nov 1990) going through Englewood Yard in Houston.

What was the original 1930 name? I'm guessing it was one of the "General" or "Mount" series.

It was originally not just a lounge car but 10 section - lounge.
Named General Polk.

I do not think that the General series cars ever were assigned to the Crescent.

The series was split between Southern Railway and ATSF for first assignments after being built. The Pullman lot order record mistakenly added for the Crescent Limited, but they were actually used in general service on the Southern.

The car was probably assigned to the Piedmont Limited on the day that the car distributions to the railroads by the break-up of Pullman were determined by current assignments. Part of that train's route was over the West Point Route.
