Nostalgia & History > Is Three Times a Charm?Date: 08/01/25 11:12 Is Three Times a Charm? Author: GRNDMND It's not often that you photograph the same locomotive in three different locations in three sequential years on two different railroads. Let alone working for two separate owners in two different paint schemes. But that was my encounter with former MKT FP7 #78A. The first time was in my hometown of Dixon, Illinois leading northbound train#372 with two additional former MKT F's, now owned by PECO and leased by IC, on August 21, 1970. Ten months later, the former MKT unit, now owned and painted for CNW as their #231, was photographed leading a KC-bound manifest, with four additional F's of varying heritage, in St. Joseph, Missouri on June 23, 1971. Finally, one year later on September 6, 1972, I would photograph CNW #231 leading a train out of Oelwein, Iowa. Pictured here are the first two encounters, in Dixon, Illinois on the IC and in St.Joseph, Missouri on CNW's former CGW KC main. The third image can be found with this link from a previous TO post back in May 2008: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,1680022,1680182#1680182
