Nostalgia & History > Not much can be repeated from what is pictured on #1Date: 09/02/25 07:50 Not much can be repeated from what is pictured on #1 Author: Super_C 1. On February 17, 1990, pictured is ATSF 8752 West with the QBHLA crossing the next to last bridge at the west end of Abo Canyon. Think of the things that are gone from this picture. For one thing, the edge of the quarry that I was standing on.
2. The second picture was taken on July 9, 2011. The bridge pictured in #1 is still in place while an eastbound with JB Hunt containers and trailers is crossing it and a westbound is crossing a new bridge to accomodate the second track through the canyon. Note no more quarry. Date: 09/02/25 08:03 Re: Not much can be repeated from what is pictured on #1 Author: Chico56 Excellent before and after shots John, number one sure brings back memories!

No access to Abo No Santa Fe No C30s or SD45s No Kodachrome paint No BN America containers Anything else? JG Date: 09/02/25 08:14 Re: Not much can be repeated from what is pictured on #1 Author: Chico56 jgilmore Wrote:

------------------------------------------------------- > Why/how is there no access? It is a long story, but the short answer is that once the double track was completed through Abo Canyon in 2011, BNSF had no desire to deal with trespassers and put up"NO TRESPASSING" signs throughout the canyon, installed locked gates at either end of the canyon......and that basically closed it to railfans. There are ways that one can basically hike from one end of the canyon to the other where the hike is only on BNSF property for a short distance. But, it is a far cry from Santa Fe access and the hike is a real bitch! I am not a drone person and I have yet to see any pictures taken by drones. I think one of the problems drone flyers might face is whereever you launch the drone from, you are still trespassing on private property. And I am not sure how a drone owner considers flying the drone into an area where he can't see the drone within the canyon.
