Just another sunset in downtown Denver, 1982. A BN switcher is working the eastbound San Francisco Zephyr, while a light set of helpers drifts into town.

Wouldn't the San Francisco Zephyr be using Superliner passenger cars in 1982?  That looks like heritiage cars including a number of domes.

 

Note the two Union Pacific cars on the UP's Creamery Track.  UP business cars were regular visitors to Denver, Colorado, in those days.

Wonderful shot.  I miss the Uncle Sam track, which was located, if memory serves, between track 1 and the station building...maybe closer to the postal annex just west of the station?  I think it was a relatively short track. 
I recall seeing Rock Island business car Lake Michigan parked on it in the early 1970s.

Just guessing -- Could the passenger consist be the RGZ?

it would have to be before november 1980....JC look at the blunt end q dome, by the rear windows we can narrow that down too, the veranda was already wrecked

Maybe, if it wasn't for the Amtrak baggages on the close end.  It looks like 3 with the Amtrak phase III stripes.

sfz  and starlight domes got plentiful after the empire builder was equipped with superliners

If that's a blunt-end dome, it looks like one of the 1953-built parlors for the Kansas City Zephyr (dome closer to vestibule end).   This might be deadhead equipment preparing to head east.
