Nostalgia & History > RVM-179 AddendaDate: 09/30/25 07:52 RVM-179 Addenda Author: ntharalson Appologies to Valmont for semi-hijacking his thread, but having seen it, I couldn't reesist adding to it.
As I said, I chased this train north out of Hill City. Of course, these photos are not nearly as nice as the one Valmont posted by Bruce Black. This is the only time I'm aware of where one of the tank engines, 104, went up to Deadwood. The first shot shows the train about to depart Hill City. #2 shows the train approahing the Rochford cut. I could never find out of this was an old tunnel daylighted or the Q cut through the Rock. The third shot shows a photo runby with the train coming out of the cut. There were several of us on that hillside and someone yelled "Down in front!" LOL Of course no one listened. I have to add that I did not meet Bruce Black on this day. My loss!
