Burlington Northern was just starting up as stock movements by rail were in the final stages of winding down.  Most, but not all, of the pre-merger BN stock cars soon found themselves unemployed.  Many of the excess cars were stored while some found homes in company and other service.  For a very lucky few, their wheels continued to turn for a couple more years before the end finally came. This edition of Freight Car Friday highlights three cars from three pre-BN roads still in service during the early/mid-1970’s.

I would have loved to see that GN car after it was freshly repainted to Big Sky Blue.  There could not have been many that got this treatment.
