Nostalgia & History > UP passenger geep for a locationDate: 10/03/25 06:20 UP passenger geep for a location Author: santafe199 Interesting train! Any idea where it is? TIA for any help…
1. UP 299 + three car passenger train at Gering, NE* on September 28, 1955. Copy slide by Jack Pfeifer, from the late James W. Watson collection. Thanks for the help! Date: 10/03/25 09:49 Re: UP passenger geep for a location Author: timz Thought it might be train 34 at Pocatello or somewhere up there,
but 34 probably had sleepers and food as long as it had that number. Date: 10/03/25 10:50 Re: UP passenger geep for a location Author: OmahaTom ctillnc Wrote:

West Yellowstone service was for just the summer season, so perhaps it is between Ashton and Idaho Falls with only a coach for passengers. UP service in that area is confusing for me.

suggest a good source of ground water. The gigantic high-tension tower at far left suggests proximity to an electric power plant. I resided in Eastern Idaho 45 years ago but can't recall anything familiar in that excellent photo. Date: 10/04/25 08:43 Re: UP passenger geep for a location Author: swaool Very cool! UP No. 94 was listed as a mixed train in the 1954 timetable I have, so presumably no freight traffic to handle this day? There was also a shot of No. 94 at Gering in this thread:

With the short hood as front, like that UP passenger GP, they must have felt that tall stack extension was necessary.
